1. Concept and Composition

Polyurethane foam sealant is a one-component, self-expanding adhesive made from polyether or polyester polyols and isocyanates. 3. Key Properties

3.1 Thermal Insulation

Closed-cell foam has a low thermal conductivity (around 0.028–0.035 W/m·K) and high R-value, forming a seamless insulating layer for roofs, walls, and pipes.

3.2 Waterproof Sealing

Once cured, the foam provides effective waterproof sealing, blocking air and moisture and filling cracks to prevent leaks.

3.3 Sound Absorption

Open-cell foam attenuates sound waves and reduces echo, making it ideal for interior acoustic treatment and vibration damping.

3.4 Adhesion and Fixing

After curing, it bonds strongly to various substrates—concrete, brick, wood, metal, and plastics—serving as a fixing adhesive for windows, railings, and decorative elements.

  • Tack-free time: 8–15 minutes

  • Full cure: approximately 24 hours

  • Expansion ratio: up to 5–10× (depending on product)
    Being a one-component system, it requires no mixing—simply dispense with a foam gun or nozzle for precise placement.

3.6 Chemical and Environmental Stability

Resistant to aging, UV, oils, and mold, the foam offers a service life of over 20 years. It is chemically stable and free of harmful heavy metals like bromine and lead.

4. Typical Applications

  • Construction: Insulation and sealing of roofs, walls, and foundation gaps; bonding of external insulation panels.

  • Window and Door Installation: Filling gaps between frames and walls to insulate and secure.

  • Piping Systems: Thermal insulation and waterproof sealing for hot-water lines and air-conditioning ducts.

  • Manufacturing and Assembly: Encasement in appliance housings, gap filling in furniture, and support in curtain-wall installations.

  • Acoustic Engineering: Lining in theaters, recording studios, and other sound-sensitive environments.

5. Selection and Application Tips

  1. Choose open-cell or closed-cell based on insulation or acoustic needs.

  2. Ensure substrates are clean, dry, and free of oil.

  3. Hold the nozzle 2–3 cm from the gap and apply in layers to prevent cracking.

  4. Clean the foam gun and hoses immediately after use to avoid blockages.

  5. Provide adequate ventilation and wear protective equipment to minimize inhalation of isocyanate vapors.

6. Environmental and Safety Considerations

Before curing, the foam contains small amounts of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Work in a well-ventilated area and wear an N95 mask and gloves. Once fully cured, it is non-toxic and complies with European REACH and U.S. EPA emission standards, making it an eco-friendly insulation and sealing material.
