Introduction to Polyurethane Foam Adhesive
Polyurethane foam adhesive is a single-component, moisture-curing, multi-functional foam adhesive, commonly known as PU foam sealant or filling foam. It contains polyurethane prepolymers, blowing agents, catalysts, and other components in a pressurized aerosol can. When dispensed, the foam rapidly expands and reacts with moisture in the air or substrate to form a closed-cell foam.

Preparatory Work

Substrate Preparation
Ensure the wall is flat, clean, and free of grease, dust, or sealant residues. Any uneven areas must be leveled first. Flatness deviation should not exceed ±3 mm and moisture content below 10%. -
Surface Priming
On highly absorbent or smooth substrates, apply a dedicated bonding primer. Lightly mist the surface with water, since moisture speeds the foam’s curing.
Choosing and Using the Foam Adhesive

Product Selection
Opt for low-expansion, board-bonding–specific gun-grade PU foam. For small gaps or portability, use tube-grade foam; for larger installations requiring precision, use gun-grade foam with a dispensing gun. -
Application Procedure

Shake the can vigorously for at least 60 seconds.

For gun-grade foam, invert the can on the gun’s threaded fitting, adjust flow, and spray.

For tube foam, attach the plastic nozzle, aim at gaps, and squeeze the tube.

Dot-and-Frame Method
Apply a 5 cm-wide, 3–5 mm-thick frame of foam around the panel’s perimeter, then 4–6 circular adhesive spots (~10 cm diameter) in the center. Ensure total bond area ≥ 40% of panel area. -
Installation Sequence
Work from bottom to top in horizontal rows. When filling vertical joints, spray from bottom up to prevent uncured foam sagging. -
Volume Control
Fill about two-thirds of the gap volume. After expansion, it fully fills the space without causing panel distortion. -
Pressing and Alignment
Press the panel onto the wall, then use a 2 m straightedge to check flatness and verticality. Joints between panels should be ≤ 1 mm, and height difference ≤ 1.5 mm.

Initial set in 2–3 hours; surface tack-free in ~10 minutes; after 60 minutes, excess foam can be trimmed. -
Mechanical Anchoring
After 24 hours, install 6–8 anchors per m². Embed anchors at least 30 mm into concrete walls and 60 mm into lightweight walls. -
Surface Finishing
Trim excess foam with a knife. Apply cement mortar, paint, or silicone coating to protect from UV degradation.

Environmental Conditions
Ideal use: 18–25 °C. Cured foam tolerates –35 °C to 80 °C. In cold weather, keep cans at 25–30 °C for 30 minutes before use. -

Ensure ventilation. Wear gloves, protective clothing, and goggles. Avoid skin or clothing contact with uncured foam. Store cans below 50 °C to prevent pressure buildup. -
Quality Control
Cured foam yellows under UV; apply protective coatings. When replacing cans, quickly reconnect to prevent nozzle blockage. Clean the foam gun immediately with cleaner after use.
